Calcitic Lime

I have used lime on lawns for years to increase the pH to help break up had, clay soils in North Carolina. It took hundreds of pounds of lime over many years to get the correction needed for a nice lawn. I tried Calcitic Lime on a recommendation from someone who told me it I could use a fraction of the Calcitic Lime in weight compared to traditional pelletized Lime and instead of months to see any results, I would see visual results in days. I used one 30 LB bag on 10,000 sq feet and was fortunate to have two excellent rains within a few days after application.

The results were astonishing for me. Within 3 weeks I had a lush, green fescue lawn and it thickened up dramatically within a month. It was easy to apply and cost about the same per square foot to apply when you factor in your time and material cost. One 60 lb bag was to cover 11,000 sq feet of lawn. Now...six weeks later the lawn is very thick and holding moisture reducing the water costs.

I used Southern States Solu-Lime® Enhanced Calcitic Lime which offers the follwing specs and benefits:

About Solu-Cal | Enhanced Calcitic Lime

Turf managers know the critical role that soil Ph plays in soil health and turf quality. Optimal soil pH is a major factor in nutrient availability, microbial activity, soil structure and overall tuff vigor. Maintaining the correct soil pH allows for the most efficient use of applied and soil stored nutrients.

Solu-Cal LawnSolu-Cal USA’s family of calcium and sulfur products allow turf managers to quickly and efficiently address soil chemistry problems. Solu-cal Enhanced Calcium quickly raises soil pH at ¼ the rate of traditional liming material. Now available in our new Super Micro 70 sgn size and standard coarse grade. For liquid applications in either spray programs or hydro seeding, Solu-cal L provides available calcium in a clear no grit liquid. Solu-cal L is the alternative to liquid lime which is tough on pumps and settles out quickly in tanks. Solu-cal L provides available calcium while maintaining soil pH.

Solu-Cal, a calcitic lime, is four times more effective than regular lime. If a superintendent is told to use a ton of lime per acre, he can do the same thing with 500 pounds of Solu-Cal. There are labor savings, storage savings, fewer empty bags to fool with, fewer refills.

Maintaining healthy soil requires available calcium and pH management. Partner with Solu-cal to efficiently manage your soil and your turf.
